"101 Dalmatians" Make Their Way to Blu-ray

Walt Disney Home Entertainment lets the dogs back out of the vault for the “101 Dalmatians” Diamond Edition. The release marks the debut of the classic animated masterpiece in high-definition. The package comes with Blu-ray, DVD, and a digital copy so families can enjoy it anywhere at any time.

Dalmatian Pongo is tired of his bachelor-dog life. He spies lovely Perdita and maneuvers his master, Roger, into meeting Perdita's owner, Anita. The owners fall in love and marry, keeping Pongo and Perdita together too. After Perdita gives birth to a litter of 15 puppies, Anita's old school friend Cruella De Vil wants to buy them all. Roger declines her offer, so Cruella hires the criminal Badun brothers to steal them -- so she can have a fur coat.

The “101 Dalmatians” Diamond Edition is presented in 1080p High-Definition (1.33:1) with 7.1 surround sound. The picture is clean with vivid coloring based on the different backgrounds and moods the movie is trying to represent. The audio has never sounded more full and immersive.

The Diamond Edition of “101 Dalmatians” comes with some fun bonus material. They include a new animated short entitled “The Further Adventures of Thunderbolt.” Featurettes like “Dalmatians 101,” “Lucky Dogs,” and “Walt Disney Presents ‘The Best Doggoned Dog in the World’ (1961 Version)” are found. There’s also DisneyView and more to enjoy.

“101 Dalmatians” is a perfect example of classic Walt Disney animation and storytelling. It has an air of elegance thanks to its English setting and characters. The unforgettable villainy and look of Cruella de Vil will forever be imprinted in the minds of children and their parents alike. It’s a tale of family loyalty that cautions us to always be wary of other people’s motives and greed. And of course kids will find the puppies cute as well.
