Blu-ray Review: RoboCop 2 (Collector's Edition)

RoboCop 2 does a fine job of following up its predecessor. It has just the right amount of campiness to offset its high body count. The stop-motion work and practical effects and makeup are a pleasure to look at and a wonderful reminder of the days before CGI. While RoboCop 2 isn't quite as good as the first film, it comes close enough thanks to hammy villains and other hilarious baddies. A little league baseball coach using his team to rob a store come to mind right away.

When Detroit's descent into chaos is further compounded by a police department strike and a new designer drug called "Nuke," only RoboCop (Peter Weller) can stop the mayhem. But in his way are an evil corporation that profits from Motor City crime and a bigger and tougher cyborg with a deadly directive: Take out RoboCop. Containing the latest gadgetry and weaponry as well as the mind of the madman (Tom Noonan) who designed "Nuke," this new cyborg isn't just more sophisticated than his predecessor... he's psychotic and out of control! And it's going to take everything our hero has – maybe even his life – to save Detroit from complete and utter anarchy in RoboCop 2.

RoboCop 2 is rated R for violence and gore, profanity, drug use, adult situations, and frightening and intense scenes. One example of the sort of content to expect is there's a foul-mouthed child is a foul- mouthed dealing drugs and lugging around a gun throughout much of the movie. There's no nudity, but a quick scene of intimacy between two people.
