Everyone's favorite little deer finally gets his HD Digital release as Disney brings "Bambi" to Blu-ray in a special Anniversary Signature Collection edition. There isn't a thing I can add to anyone else's review of this film over the years that will effect anyone's personal opinion of one of Disney's finest moments in cinema history. The movie's had 75 years to speak for itself and I believe it's done a great job doing so.
For those who've been away on a desert island somewhere, "Bambi" tells the tale of a fawn joined by his new friends, a young rabbit named Thumper and a skunk named Flower, in happily exploring the woods. Bambi is captivated with a young doe named Faline, and he learns from his doting mother and his father -- the Great Prince of the Forest -- that besides the delights of the forest, there is danger in open meadows where hunters can see them. Though fear and tragedy touch Bambi's life, another spring brings renewal.
Blu-ray bonus extras for "Bambi": Anniversary Edition - The Signature Collection include the featurette "Studio Stories: 'Bambi,'" "The 'Bambi' Effect," an extended edition of "Inside Walt's Story Meetings," "'Bambi' Fawn Facts," and deleted scenes. It also contains a brand-new version of an Oswald short.
All of these new special features for "Bambi": Anniversary Edition - The Signature Collection are paired with classic bonus material from its previous releases. They include two deleted scenes, a deleted song, "The Making of 'Bambi': A Prince is Born" documentary, and featurettes "Tricks of the Trade," "Inside the Disney Archives," "The Golden Age," and "The Old Mill" short. The Digital HD version of "Bambi" comes with the all-new featurette "Celebrating Tyrus Wong."
"Bambi" is rated G for General Audiences. However, it does contain some frightening and intense scenes for younger viewers. Some children or their parents might find the movie a bit much for them to take in. I know adults who are still afraid to re-watch the movie because of it's emotional impact on them.
