The New Gods Special #1 will almost certainly please fans of Jack Kirby's creations. We get three tales in one book highlighting these great characters. Two are new stories, while the other is a classic reprint written and drawn by Kirby himself.
In "Orion of New Genesis," Orion and Lightray must come to the aid of Forager and his people, as Kalibak has established a brutal dictatorship over the Bug colony. In confronting his evil brother, Orion faces the darker side of his own nature. In "Teeth of the See," a young Orion and his friend Seagrin go on an underwater adventure.
"Orion of New Genesis" is written and drawn by Shane Davis and gives us his personal take on Orion, Kalibak, and the other characters from New Genesis and Apokolips. The second story, "Teeth of the See," was written and drawn by Walter Simonson and is more of a reflection of Kirby's art style. Both are worthy tributes to Jack "The King" Kirby and his comic book legacy.
The New Gods Special #1 is rated T for Teen. It contains violence and frightening and intense scenes. There's really nothing here out of the ordinary for a superhero comic book.
