It’s because of this incredibly long string of pop-culture hits — Jaws, E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark, etc. — that Spielberg was so ideally positioned as one of the few directors who could faithfully translate Ernest Cline’s pop-culture-driven Ready Player One novel to the big screen.
