DVD Review: LEGO DC Super Hero Girls: Super-Villain High

DC has been on a roll with not only their live action TV series, but even more so with their straight to Blu-ray and DVD animated features. Their DC Super Hero Girls takes the DC Universe in a direction geared towards the female fan that spawned not only new toys and comics, but a series of animated shorts on their YouTube channel and animated films. Now they are stepping up the brand with another all new original movie once again taking it into the LEGO world with LEGO DC Super Hero Girls: Super-Villain High, but does it offer more of what fans have been loving about the shorts or will it not be able to get the grades it needs to pass?

LEGO DC Super Hero Girls: Super-Villain High follows a mysterious school that opens across the street where the students of Super Hero High find themselves up against a new threat. Now, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl and the rest of the DC Super Hero Girls not only have to worry about the well-being of their grades, but the safety and security of friends, family and the rest of civilization. The girls must figure out how to put a stop to this evil, new cross-town rival and save the world once again! While the tone and vibe here is clearly geared towards the young girl demographic, this series continues to have a lot for anyone to enjoy. The addition of the villains and even more fun characters getting in on the fun made for another fun entry into the series. They continue to do some creative things with both the heroes and villains in how they made them part of the students and faculty.

I still think the more traditional animated films and series they did are much better than the LEGO films, but it doesn’t make the film bad by any means. The overall film offers up plenty of action along with the fun offering up yet another unique vision for all ages and giving the female characters and demographic a series all their own while making sure to balance it out with plenty of the male heroes to in a way that it works more so for everyone.

This will no doubt still be a fun movie for the demographic it is aimed for so grab your copy of LEGO DC Super Hero Girls: Super-Villain High when it hits DVD on May 15th from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
